history
Roland's L/A line began with the D-50
in 1987 and ended with the D-70
in 1990. However, interest in L/A and compatible hardware,
though less than in previous years, has not died off ... at least
not yet. Witness the use of the MT-32 sound set in legions of
computer games developed over the last decade, not to mention the
fact that even the newest Roland GS Sound
Canvases have MT32/CM64 patch banks. Then there are the
D-series beasts (D-50/70), which have been mainstays for musicians
and composers on stage, albums, movie soundtracks, and more radio
and TV commercials than people might be aware of ... or would want
to be. I'm partial to the D-50, as I am a proud owner of this
synth. I combine its warmth with the realism of the SC-55mkII
and JV-1080 for a full sound in compositions.
